Welcome to the world, Ryan!

Panda head

Pandas have snuck into Taiwan! My company's end of year dinner had a "jungle" theme. My bestest wife helped get me this beauty, to make my big head even bigger! And I won the prize for best costume!

Dinosaur eggs

Dinosaur eggs!! Real dinosaur eggs! (Not that I could tell if they were real or not)

Saturday was Election Day in Taiwan (KMT kicked DPP's posterior), and we were down south so my good wife could vote. While there, we visited Chengcing Lake (man-made), which boasts a very special aquarium & museum in an underground bunker built by Chiang Kai-shek. This subterranean treasure hole has a wide range of bizarre colourful fish (moray eels, stone fish, sharks etc), coral, and fossils - I wouldn't be surprised if many were illegally gained! Especially the coral! I had thought coral was protected, but this place had many specimens. It was all privately owned, and the owner apparently lives on an island - no doubt to escape the law!

Flower show

On Tues & Wed, my Fen and I had the rarest of treats, 2 days on which we both weren't working and able to spend the day together! (My company was closed on New Years day plus the 2nd).
Despite living in Taipei for 2.5 years, I've never set foot inside Daan Park. We went there yesterday, during the month-long flower show - many strange and pretty exhibits made from flowers. Cold as heck though!

ING

I am getting old... The ING International Marathon was today, bright and early, starting at 7am (OK, not really very early). I did the 9km run, a blue bandage wrapped around my knee. My time was not bad, 53m 27s, but 2 years ago I had done 10km in the same time - somehow I am one km slower!

Had a good breakfast afterwards (at a place that even served steak for brekkie!). That helped me forget my age anguish...

Sunday (19-08-2007)

Man making Thai coffee (using condensed milk) in Bangkok - a lovely sweet-sweet drink. Fun to watch them make it too, even if the guy seems to be pouring the coffee onto the ground!

The very impressive and well-stocked Leigh & Co of Christchurch (with many products probably past their expiry dates, due to being shipped all the way from jolly England).
